Intro to InDesign – Interface & Tools

Today we will begin learning about the Adobe software suite, and the properties of the InDesign page layout software.

Objective:

  • Identify and effectively use the Toolbar, Control Panels and default Palettes.
  • Produce and modify shapes and photo frames.
  • Place a picture into a photo frame using multiple techniques.

Assignment:

  1. Follow along with the in-class demonstration.
  2. Produce a new InDesign document featuring the following:
    1. at least (4) four pictures of you
    2. one (1) picture of anything else (school appropriate!)
    3. Your name in 24pt type or larger
  3. Save the file as “Your Name – InDesign Day 1″ into folder number 1 – InDesign Day 1” in the appropriate subfolder of “Student Drop Folder” on the StudentsTempFiles volume.

Meet Your Mac Activity

Objectives:

  • Introduce students to the Mac OSX operating system.
  • Walk students through configuring their workspace to their own preferences.

Student-Friendly Objectives:

  • I can effectively use the Macintosh, and change my desktop wallpaper, mouse settings and desktop settings.

Assignment:

  1. Today we’ll begin our introduction to the Macintosh operating system.
  2. Follow along with the in-class demonstrations to learn how to:
    1. Navigate through the OSX Mavericks operating system.
    2. Identify and use items on the desktop, including the Finder, application icons, the menu bar, the dock, the trash and the Launchpad.
    3. Use the System Preferences panel to adjust your Desktop wallpaper and your Mouse settings.
    4. Open a new Finder window and navigate to your Documents folder to store files and folders.
    5. Use the Finder window to view files and folders in different ways.
    6. Use Safari to browse the web
  3. Use Google Image Search to find an appropriate image to personalize your desktop. (Keep it classy!)
    1. Remember: for the image to look good on your desktop, it has to have a minimum horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels!
