El Torito Banner Project 2020

Objective:

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of design by re-designing a real-world banner advertisement, so they can gain experience with applying the principles in an authentic scenario.

Assignment:

  1. Open “El Torito Banner Instructions” for the assignment instructions.
  2. See the document entitled “El Torito Ad Rubric” for the exact criteria under which this assignment will be graded. Make sure you have all the elements in the “4” column to ensure you get the highest grade possible!
  3. Remember the Principles of Design (C.R.A.P.): Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity, and let them guide all your decisions as you build this banner! Remember to create a strong focal point, and a strong eyeflow using all of the principles! Think about what combination of words and images would get your attention and get you to buy meat and seafood at this store!
  4. When you are satisfied that your page layout meets all the assignment requirements, save it with your name in the filename (i.e. “MisterMTorito”.
  5. Export the file as a .png or .jpg file and save the resulting file to the “El Torito Banner Project 2020” assignment in Google Classroom by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 26th.
  6. On Thursday the 27th, we will do an online reflection writing activity in our Google Classroom that will ask how you used the Principles of Design in this assignment, so make sure you remember your C.R.A.P. (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity)!

The Principles of C.R.A.P. 2020: Contrast

Objective:

I can name the Principles of Design and describe what they mean by correctly responding to questions in a check for understanding form so I can effectively identify when these principles are (or are not) being used in a published work.

Assignment:

  1. Today we will focus on the principle of Contrast (making design elements different so they stand out and attract attention).
  2. As before, we will look at examples of what Contrast means (as it pertains to design), and learn how to format images (or text) to make them stand out and attract a reader’s attention.
  3. As of today, we’re done with the Principles of C.R.A.P. discussions, and I’ll give you a chance to practice your C.R.A.P. with a new activity on Monday!
  4. Complete the Google Form titled “Contrast Chapter Questions” in today’s Google Classroom post to show that you understand what we read today.
  5. As always, I will be available if you have any questions or need any assistance!
