El Torito Banner Project 2016

Objective: 

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of design by re-designing a real-world banner advertisement.

Assignment:

  1. Open “El Torito Banner Instructions 2016” for the assignment instructions.
  2. See the document entitled “El Torito Ad Rubric 2016” for the exact criteria under which this assignment will be graded. Make sure you have all the elements in the “4” column to ensure you get the highest grade possible!
  3. Remember the Principles of Design (C.R.A.P.): Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity, and let them guide all your decisions as you build this banner! Remember to create a strong focal point, and a strong eyeflow using all of the principles! Think about what combination of words and images would get your attention and get you to buy meat and seafood at this store!
  4. When you are satisfied that your page layout meets all the assignment requirements, save it with your name in the filename.
  5. Add the .indd file and any pictures that you included to the “El Torito Banner Project 2016” assignment in Google Classroom.
  6. On Monday, we will do an online reflection writing activity in our Google Classroom that will ask how you used the Principles of Design in this assignment, so make sure you remember your C.R.A.P. (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity)!

Check for Understanding – The Principles of C.R.A.P. 2016

Objective: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of design by designing a flyer explaining what each principle means and visually demonstrating what each principle looks like.

Assignment:

  1. Create a new one-page 51p0 x 66p0 document in InDesign CS5.5 with all the default settings.
  2. Use Images, Text and the Principles of Design (C.R.A.P.) that we have been studying over the last few days to design a page that lists all four principles, explains what each principle means, and visually demonstrates what each principle looks like.
  3. Remember the Principles of Design (C.R.A.P.): Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity, and let them guide all your decisions as you build this page! Remember to create a strong focal point, and a strong eyeflow using the principles!
  4. When you are satisfied that your page layout meets all the assignment requirements, save it with your name in the filename.
  5. Hand in this assignment to the assignment titled “Check for Understanding – Princples of C.R.A.P.” in your Google Classroom page.
