Fall 2015 – 5 – El Torito Banner 2015

Objective: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of design by re-designing a real-world banner advertisement.

Assignment:

  1. Visit StudentsTempFiles and open “5 – El Torito Banner 2015.pdf” for the assignment instructions.
  2. See the document entitled “CGD1 – El Torito Ad Rubric 2015.pdf” for the exact criteria under which this assignment will be graded. Make sure you have all the elements in the “4” column to ensure you get the highest grade possible!
  3. Remember the Principles of Design (C.R.A.P.): Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity, and let them guide all your decisions as you build this banner! Remember to create a strong focal point, and a strong eyeflow using the principles!
  4. When you are satisfied that your page layout meets all the assignment requirements, save it with your name in the filename. Create a new folder with your name, and place a copy of all the photos you used in this assignment in the folder. Turn in this folder and your finished InDesign file to the appropriate Student Drop Folder on the class file server (5 – El Torito Banner).
  5. On Friday, we will do an online reflection writing activity that will ask how you used the Principles of Design in this assignment, so make sure you remember your C.R.A.P. (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity)!

Fall 2015 – 4 – Design Principles – Repetition

Objective:
Students will identify and explain the Principles of Design, and effectively identify when these principles are (or are not) being used in a published work.

Assignment:

  1. Visit StudentsTempFiles and open “4 – Design Principles”
  2. Read “4 – README – Repetition Chapter”.
  3. Create a new page in your existing Design Principles InDesign document, and answer the questions in the “4 – QUESTIONS – Repetition.pdf” document.
  4. Don’t forget, although this is due next week, we only have four days next week, and we still have one more chapter to study before we turn this in on Friday, September 11th. Have a great three day weekend, hang in there, and don’t fall behind!
