Instructions: Open a new, default size InDesign document. Open Safari and use the Internet to complete the following exercises. Write all your answers in complete sentences in 12 point Times New Roman. Be sure to check your spelling and grammar.

1.  Go to https://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blphotography.htm and answer the following:
a. Who “invented” the word photography and from what language is it derived?
b. Who invented the first practical photographic process? When was it perfected and what was the process called?
c. What is a pinhole camera?
d. What is a camera obscura and what was it used for?
e. What was the first photographic process that could be printed on a thin sheet of metal?
f. George Eastman created a box camera loaded with film. Why was this such an important innovation?
2. Go to https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/10/photogalleries/in_focus/index.html and answer the following:
a. Look at all ten portraits. Which one do you like the best? Why? Which one makes you sad? Why? Which one reminds you of someone you know? Why. Put the one you like best into your document.
3. Go to https://www.photoarts.com/. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
a. Click on the Instruments of Death link. The photos you will see here are all in black and white and are all very abstract photos.
b. Look up the word abstract and then explain why the photos are abstract.
c. Find one that you like the best, put it in your document and explain why you like it.
4. Go to https://www.graphic-design.com/photographic/personal_photo.html. Read the paragraphs and answer the following questions.
a. What are some of the most overlooked areas for using a camera? Explain in detail.
b. “Making a photographic record of seemingly routine daily activities” seems like a lot of work, but what can it lead to? Why could it be important? Explain what you mean.
c. Why can “Making a photographic record of seemingly routine daily activities” be important to you? Explain your answer?
d. What does the author mean by “Store the photos in a Universal format — not in the trendy software of the day!”? Give some examples of universal photographic formats.
