Assignment:

1. Follow along with today’s in-class presentation to learn about the paid Adobe Fonts utility and free font resources on the Internet.
2. Check out the Adobe Fonts and DaFont.com links. We will discuss in class how these sites make it easy to download and install new and useful typefaces for use in your designs.
3. Download and install five new fonts and use the actual font to write the name of each font in 36 point type in a new InDesign document.
4. When you are finished, Export the file as a High Quality Print format .PDF (File -> Adobe PDF Presets -> High Quality Print) and save the resulting .PDF file to the Google Classroom page for this assignment.
5. We will be using these and other fonts to complete an assignment next week!

In today’s assignment, we will further investigate the four major classifications of type we studied yesterday by categorizing a given font into one of the four kinds of type.

Objective:

• I can demonstrate my ability to identify which of the four major typeface categories a given font belongs to by completing the Typeface Identification activity, so that I can gain experience with recognizing type categories by sight.

Assignment:

1. Visit my Google Classroom page and open the Google Form entitled “Type Identification Fall 2025”.
2. For each of the list of 20 fonts provided, look at the font and choose which of the four Type Categories it belongs to. Each font will go into one of the four font categories we have studied in class: Serif, Sans Serif, Script or Ornamental/Display, but some might even belong to more than one category, so choose the one you think is best!
3. Submit your form, and mark the assignment as done on the Google Classroom page. We will discuss the answers towards the end of the class period.
